Together with Romeo and Juliet it's considered the icon of the Venetian city. It's the third roman amphitheatre by size after the roman Coliseum and that of Capua and it's surely among those best preserved. During the summer the famous opera season takes place here and at the beginning of September world famous artists stop over at the amphitheatre to perform their concerts.
The building, dating from the 13th century, was a long time property of the Cappello family, whose coat of arms is carved in the internal arch of the courtyard. The identification of the Cappello family with the Capuleti family gave birth to the conviction that Juliet's house, Shakespeare's tragedy heroine, was really there.
It is not a traditional Museum, on the contrary it is a spectacular and ultra-modern container of culture and ideas. It is called "Nicolis Museum of Cars, Technology and Mechanics", it is situated in Villafranca near Verona, and it was created by Luciano Nicolis a Verona entrepreneur, who dedicated all his passion for technology and mechanics.
